Crimson Lips: A Poem About Life
In a flash of inspiration
Or an act of desperation
I realized a part of me had slipped away
And you reminded me that though my hair was turning gray
I was far from senile though perhaps a little crazy
*
After days of invisibility
And testing my verbal agility
Someone finally noticed me
Noticed that my brain did not quite run on fhe same tracks
As other people's
*
You can accuse me of faulty parallelism
Or maybe cliches and over-enthusiasm
Or being lost in a world where I prefer long words with many syllables
And everyone else is OMG and AFK and LMAO and CUL8TR
That stuff makes me crazy
People that can text like fiends
But they can't use a potato peeler
You mean you can peel your own potatoes?
Whoever would have thunk it
*
And always wear crimson lipstick to the grocery store
So you won't be a bore
Because you know the day your hair is wild
And you forgot to shower
And you wore your old shoes with the hole by the left pinky toe
And you just ran to the corner store to get diapers or tampons
Then that is the day the reporter from the news will be there
To ask you about politics or the newest fashions or the construction on Lincoln Blvd.
And I would like to think that even Barbra Streisand has bad hair days
