Riding the Wave of Randomness

Let's start with things I never knew

I never knew there was a Long Beach in New York

And that there are surfers in Long Beach, New York

Now I did know there is a Las Vegas in New Mexico

Because we had sopapillas there once when I was a kid

I never knew my sister blamed herself when I fell off a horse when I was 9

I broke my left arm

She fell off the horse too

And I never once blamed myself for that

`

My parents had a secret life I never knew much about

Just some random mentions of things

Like my mother saying she used to roller skate

And my father saying he had been an actor

And my mother saying she never wanted to have a cat

Because she had one when she was a little girl

And some maniac driver purposely drove on the sidewalk

And ran it over

So now I have that stuck in my memory too

She also told me about a baby chick

My grandmother was a little girl and playing in the barn

So she put a shoebox over the little chick

And a tornado came

And blew the barn away

But there was the shoebox

And there was the chick

So sometimes miracles do happen
