The Quest A Poem

The Quest
Written on New Year’s Eve 2011.
I will let you know how it comes out but I think I'm going to have to move. Especially when I keep getting signs from the universe like this. Of course these things aren't cast in concrete and sometimes a change is on a spiritual level and not on a physical level. As the saying goes, 'the only thing constant is change.' Moving is expensive and I just can't afford it, but if certain events happen I may have no choice.
The Quest
Another year passes from now into then,
Each grain of sand dripping through the hourglass.
I light a black candle and a white candle.
I shuffle and then draw the Quest card from the deck.
Time to prepare for a change or a journey.
Will it be a spiritual journey or a physical one?
The Quest itself tells you how to conquer the challenges
But the only way to find out is in the doing of it.
I will never be younger than I am today
I will certainly be older.
My fortune cookie yesterday spoke of new adventures.
I jokingly said hang-gliding or sky diving
But I felt a little queasy.
Yesterday I randomly found myself watching the Chronicles of Narnia.
But I just now realized that was another metaphor for the quest.
Everyone wants to return home where it is safe
Curl up inside their comfort zone
But that is not usually where adventure lies.
It is never that simple, is it?
Maybe I should start packing.

Passing of year symbolizes motion. Yours is a beautiful poem.
