Today I Saw_An exercise in Poetry

Today I saw
I think every poet could use this device, and maybe even use it over and over again. So if you want to steal this idea, go for it.
My Neighborhood
Today I saw:
A lady and a boy walking a golden retriever in the rain
They had a big black umbrella
They were holding it over the dog, not over themselves
Today I saw:
A homeless man smoking outside of Del Taco
I asked him if he thought it was going to rain
And he grunted
Today I saw:
School children rushing across the intersection
The crossing guard holding up two hands like in a stick-up
And in this neighborhood maybe it was
Today I saw:
Two neighbors parallel parking in the rain
Then rushing to get to their front door
But still taking the time to wave at me
